Review and Reflection
Weetabix advert 2
What advertising techniques did you use and why?
For this I used a few techniques for my second advertisement, firstly my advert is about a student who comes to college late and realises he has a test a hour later, so he goes to the canteen to firstly get a bit of breakfast, the obvious choice is Weetabix as this is what the advert is selling, he then brings the product to a table and eats it, he then starts to study, although this has been edited to speed up while he is studying, this is using exaggeration in this advert, as if to mean if you have some Weetabix, you will be ready for anything, studying for example the student can do this much faster than normal, he then goes to take his test and comes out with an A, and as the advert ends a slogan appears saying “Looks like he’s had his Weetabix” this is using a reference from a former Weetabix advert, this is using iconography, to make the advert more memorable. In a way this advert also uses a promise and benefit technique because this advert states that if you have this Weetabix you will benefit, that’s why the student gets a good grade at the end and him studying faster, to show the benefit of the product being sold.
Describe the different editing decisions you made in your adverts?

Describe the different editing decisions you made in your adverts?
The advertising decisions made in this advert was to initially to show how the product Weetabix can benefit you so for each advert made there is a problem and solution, this is also another technique used in this advert. I decided to speed up certain parts of the advert to seem more effective, for such things like the student studying as I believe this makes the advert have a bit of humour with the music that also kicks in as soon as this happens, this will make the song as well as the slogan seem more memorable making the advert more successful and this is what adverts try to make happen, make them seem more memorable and to stick in our heads, the most popular way to do this is to make a slogan or tune to stick in our heads e.g. Mc Donald’s, as each of their adverts have the same tune at the end, to make you remember and stick in your head.
How effective do you think the advert was? Do you think it would persuade people to buy the product?
I think this advert is effective because the song and slogan are what most adverts use to try to make you remember and my advert has both of these added into them so this should make my advert seem memorable. I think this would persuade people to buy the product because of the humour side; these are techniques which make adverts successful so I think that using these in mine would do the same.
How could the ads be improved? What would you do defiantly next time?
I think that the advertisement could have been improved by using better actors; again our advertisement was not fully planned to the last minute so a member of the group ended up acting for us. Otherwise I thought that this production is a suitable advert which can be shown to all ages with no problems before the watershed.
Discuss the legal and ethical issues in your adverts and how your ad meets the ASA guidelines.
This advertisement does not cross any guidelines because it does not offend anyone and has no offensive content involved. Our advert might show a slight bit of misleading on what the product can do but we expect the public to obviously know that if you buy our product there would be no chance of working at light speed. We do not own any rights whatsoever towards the product “Weetabix” and only create these films for college assignments.
